Full & Partial Dentures in Belvidere, Illinois

Sometimes, dental injuries, gum disease or decay can become uncontrollable and can result in tooth extraction if impossible to treat by any other dental method. But we can’t live without teeth; teeth are important for basic functions like speaking, biting, and chewing. Because of this, dentures and partial dentures were created. Today, they are one of the oldest and most trusted dental solutions used to replace missing teeth.

What are Dentures?

Dentures are prosthetic appliances made to replace your missing teeth, restoring normal function while delivering a nice aesthetic appearance. They are removable appliances that allow you to remove and clean them at your comfort. Unlike in previous years, dentures today are more comfortable, natural looking, and user-friendly than ever before.

Types of Dentures

In general, there are two types of Dentures:

  • Complete Dentures – Complete Dentures are dental appliances that cover the full arch of the upper or lower missing teeth. In some cases, dentures are created for the entire mouth. Complete Dentures are available in two forms, conventional and immediate.

Receiving conventional dentures usually takes a few weeks up to a couple of months. This is because there needs to be time for your gums to heal after extracting your remaining natural teeth. Immediate dentures are used during the same visit to serve as a temporary set until your jawbone and gums completely heal.

  • Partial Dentures – Unlike complete dentures, partial dentures are used if you are only missing a few natural teeth. They are custom-made, removable and comfortable to use to regulate daily eating, chewing and speaking.

Taking Care of Your Dentures

Dentures are prosthetic appliances that need a lot of care. Like your normal teeth, dentures also need basic but appropriate dental care, such as:

  • Brushing twice a day and flossing once a day.
  • Removing the dentures and rinsing them after every meal.
  • Clean your mouth after removing dentures.
  • Soak your dentures overnight in a bowl of water or denture soaking solution.
  • Rinse your dentures after soaking, especially if you are using denture soaking solution.
  • Schedule a regular dentist visit for better dental health.

Dentures and partial dentures can restore normal speaking and eating, preserve your facial structure, and bring back that beautiful smile!
