If you have a full row of missing teeth or all of your teeth missing, you know how difficult it can be. Biting, chewing, and speaking with dentures can be very frustrating. There may be another option to replace your missing row or rows of teeth, though…dental implants.
What Are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are prosthetics that involve the placement of titanium rods in the jawbone of the patient. Prosthetic teeth are then attached via abutments. This keeps them secure and offers a permanent and secure replacement solution.
Can You Get Full Mouth Dental Implants?
Yes!
Many people think dental implants are only for a single tooth or a few teeth. In reality, you can have an entire row of teeth replaced with dental implants. Below are the most common full mouth dental implant options:
All-on-4 implants
All-on-4 implants are a form of full mouth dental implants that replace entire rows of teeth. They can be used for the top, bottom, or both. These implants are more permanent options and aren’t intended to be removed (except by a dentist). All-on-4 implants can last a very long time.
Implant-supported dentures
Implant-supported dentures are very similar to all-on-4 implants, with the key difference being implant-supported dentures are easier to remove. They can (and should) be removed to clean. You also will want to remove implant-supported dentures at night before you go to sleep.
Full Mouth Dental Implants Cost
The cost of full mouth dental implants will vary. There are a few factors you’ll need to consider. The specific dentist, your area, insurance, and whether you need both rows of teeth replaced are a few of the factors that need to be considered. If you need a bone graft, that will add to the cost as well. For many patients, implant-supported dentures cost $13,500 on average, while all-on-4 implants may cost around $20-40,000. Many dentists offer payment plans, though, so you may not have to pay the entire cost upfront. Your insurance also may cover a portion of the cost. Contact your insurance company to learn more about coverage.
Am I a Candidate?
Whether or not you are a candidate for full mouth dental implants will depend. The cost is prohibitive for many patients, even with a payment plan. Even if you can afford them, you still may not be a candidate. Your jawbone must be strong enough to support the dental implants. Your dentist will perform an initial exam to determine whether or not you have the jawbone integrity to support implant placement. If not, you may be a candidate for a bone graft. Just keep in mind this will add to the cost of the procedure and is not guaranteed to work.
